98 Scientific Programme The Focus ICSLP 98 will continue the eight year tradition of the ICSLP series in bringing together professionals from all the diverse disciplines that contribute to Spoken Language Processing. It will provide the premier international statement of the state-of-the-art in this broad field in 1998. The Conference will build bridges between people and sub-disciplines in order to create and nurture synergies that are important for the future of the field. The wide range of topics to be covered are presented in detail in the Call for Papers. They comprise both human and machine processing or spoken language, applications arising in clinical, business, government domains, and will attract scientists with backgrounds including linguistics, computer science, psychology, engineering, medicine and physics. The Meeting Structure The major part of the Conference will be the presentation of up to 800 papers in parallel oral and poster sessions spread over the four days. Each day a plenary session is planned which will focus on broader issues of interest and concern. Posters will be arranged in subject groups. A Student Day will be held on 30 November (see details below). Trade Exhibition A scientific trade exhibition, which will be of interest to all delegates, will be held during the Conference. The Exhibition will include leading suppliers of spoken language technology and suppliers of research resources. A number of sponsorship opportunities exist for suppliers. All inquires regarding participation in the Exhibition or sponsorship should be directed to the ICSLP 98 Secretariat. SST Student Day The Australian Speech Science and Technology Association (ASSTA) will host a special Speech Science and Technology (SST) Student Day on Monday 30th November 1998. Since 1986 the Australia Speech Science and Technology community has held the biennial Australian International Conference on Speech Science and Technology (the SST series). SST-98 is incorporated within ICSLP 98 and the SST Student Day will provide a forum for students to discuss their own work with experts. It will offer both tutorial sessions and the nurturing of emerging scientists which the SST series has provided over the last 12 years. All student registrants will be invited together with selected senior researchers who offer to provide feedback and encouragement to emerging scientists in the field. Further details of the Student Day will be provided on the WWW site. |
